Troops Neutralize Terrorists, Recover Weapons, Destroy Motorcycles in Zamfara, Kebbi, Niger

Troops of Operation FOREST SANITY III have recorded a major success in ongoing counter-terrorism operations across parts of Zamfara, Kebbi, and Niger States, killing several terrorists and destroying their logistics infrastructure.

Acting on credible intelligence about the movement of armed terrorists, the troops on July 22, 2025, launched a coordinated fighting patrol from Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The patrol route extended through Kaboro and Sangeko into Makuku and Dankolo in Kebbi State.

In a seamless joint operation, the troops linked up with personnel at Forward Operating Bases (FOB) in Rijau and Warari, Niger State, where they engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight. Several of the insurgents were neutralized, and 18 motorcycles—commonly used for quick mobility by the terrorists—were destroyed.

The troops also recovered multiple weapons during the clearance operation, including AK-47 rifles loaded with magazines. Sadly, one Nigerian soldier lost his life in the line of duty during the encounter.

The Nigerian Army, in a statement posted on its official Facebook page, noted that follow-up operations were carried out on July 23, leading to additional recoveries of motorcycles and weapons from fleeing terrorist elements.

“Troops remain on high alert amid reports of terrorist regrouping,” the statement read, affirming the military’s unwavering resolve to sustain pressure on criminal elements terrorizing the region.

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to securing communities and restoring peace across the North-West and North-Central regions. The high-tempo operations under Forest Sanity III are part of broader efforts to dismantle terrorist cells, cut off their supply chains, and reassure residents of the military’s presence and protection.
