Enugu Police Raid IPOB/ESN Hideout, Nab 25 Militants, Recover Firearms
Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested 25 suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a coordinated raid on their hideout in Enugu East Local Government Area.
The operation, which took place on Friday, was carried out by officers of the Police Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, led by the Officer-in-Charge (OC), in collaboration with a tactical squad known as “Octopus.”
According to police sources, the raid followed credible intelligence indicating that the suspects were camped within the Obinagu Amangwu forest and had earlier launched an attack on members of the Ogbeke Nike Neighbourhood Watch.

The security team stormed the location around 1:05 p.m., successfully apprehending the suspects. During the operation, the operatives recovered four pump-action guns, three live cartridges, and sixteen expended cartridges from the scene.
A senior police official confirmed that the arrested individuals are currently in custody and undergoing thorough interrogation.
“This arrest is part of ongoing efforts to flush out criminal elements disguising as agitators, and to ensure peace and security across Enugu and its surrounding communities,” the source stated.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police at Zone 13 Headquarters in Awka has ordered a discreet and comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend other fleeing members of the group, as well as to uncover any broader network of accomplices.
