Troops Eliminate Notorious Bandit Kingpin ‘Dan Dari Biyar’ in Sokoto Operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation FANSAR YANMA have successfully neutralised a notorious bandit kingpin, identified as Dan Dari Biyar, during a clearance operation in the western axis of Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Sokoto State, PRNigeria reports.

Security sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that the operation took place on Thursday, as the bandit leader attempted to collect ransom money from the relatives of kidnapped victims within the forest corridor stretching between Turtsawa, Mazau, and Zango villages.

Dan Dari Biyar—infamously known for his provocative catchphrase, “I prefer ₦500 to a Hausa man”—had gained notoriety for his cruelty towards victims. He was known to subject captives to harsh treatment while demanding exorbitant ransoms.

Operating from deep within the Tidibale Forest, the outlaw was behind numerous coordinated attacks on communities in Lalle, Tsamaye, and parts of Gwadabawa, including the widely reported arson of Gidan Sale village along the Gundumi axis.

Military intelligence had linked him to a series of high-profile raids, ambushes, and arson attacks across the Sokoto East senatorial district, especially within remote forested enclaves that had long served as safe havens for criminal gangs.

The operation, which forms part of an intensified military offensive aimed at dislodging bandits and destroying their hideouts, was conducted by a combined team of Nigerian Army troops and local security volunteers operating under the Sokoto State Government’s Community Protection Initiative.

Recovered from the scene were arms, ammunition, and communication gadgets. Troops are continuing pursuit operations to apprehend fleeing members of Dan Dari Biyar’s gang.
