Troops Repel Boko Haram Attack in Gwoza, Recover Firearms

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, have successfully repelled a midnight assault by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists targeting a military position at Limankara, along the Gwoza road in Borno State.

It was gathered that the attack occurred at approximately 12:10 a.m. on Friday, July 25, when an unidentified number of insurgents attempted to breach the Alpha Company location under the 28 Task Force Brigade.

Military sources revealed that the troops responded swiftly, engaging the terrorists in a fierce firefight. The insurgents were forced to retreat in disarray after sustaining significant casualties.

Sadly, one soldier was killed in action during the exchange, while another sustained injuries. The wounded personnel has since been evacuated to the 23 Brigade Medical Centre for treatment. The remains of the fallen soldier have also been recovered.

Recovered from the fleeing insurgents were two Baofeng radios, one rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) charger, four empty magazines, and one loaded AK-47 magazine.

Although the exact number of terrorists killed or injured during the encounter remains unclear, military authorities confirmed that pursuit operations are ongoing, and troops continue to maintain dominance over the area.

“The general security situation in the area remains calm but unpredictable. Maximum vigilance and alertness are being maintained,” one of the sources stated.
