NAF ‘Rattles’ ISWAP Terrorists with Decisive Blow in Lake Chad Region

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has dealt a significant blow to the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the Lake Chad region, neutralizing several high-value commanders and fighters in a precision air interdiction mission conducted on July 27, 2025.

The NAF Spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame stated this in a statement.

Operating under Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), NAF air assets targeted ARINA WOJE, a notorious ISWAP enclave in the Southern Tumbuns of Borno State. This area is known as a sanctuary for insurgent leaders, making it a critical target for disrupting terrorist operations.

The successful strike followed extensive Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) sorties.

These missions provided credible intelligence, confirming the return of terrorist elements to the area after recent inter-factional clashes. ISR data revealed significant terrorist activity, including the movement of foot soldiers, the reactivation of structures, and the concealment of potential command centers and logistics depots hidden beneath dense foliage.

Acting on this vital intelligence, NAF air assets were dispatched to execute a focused strike mission. Aircrew successfully acquired and engaged pre-selected targets using precision-guided munitions, achieving devastating effects.

Preliminary battle damage assessment indicates the destruction of several structures that housed key ISWAP leaders, fighters, and logistics storage facilities. This operation is expected to significantly disrupt the group’s operational planning and resupply efforts in the region.

“This operation reflects the NAF’s continued resolve to dislodge terrorist elements, deny them freedom of movement, and support ground forces in restoring peace and stability across Nigeria,” said Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, Headquarters, Nigerian Air Force. He added that it also “reinforces the value of intelligence-driven air power missions in modern counter-terrorism operations.”

The successful strike underscores the NAF’s commitment to eradicating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of Nigerians.
