The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation has inaugurated an Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) to promote ethical conduct, transparency, and accountability within its operations.
A statement by Moses Odogwu, Director, Public Relations & Protocol, of the ministry said the inauguration ceremony, held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Radio House, Abuja, was conducted in partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Speaking on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Ogbodo Chinasa Nnam, the Director of the National Archives of Nigeria, Dr. Evelyn Odigboh, described the event as a “renewed commitment” to institutional integrity.
“Today’s ceremony is a symbol of renewed commitment and a formal declaration that we, as a Ministry, are not only willing but fully prepared to rise to the challenge of integrity, transparency, and accountability in public service,” Dr. Odigboh said, quoting the Permanent Secretary’s remarks.
She acknowledged that although the Ministry had informally embraced anti-corruption principles, the formal launch of ACTU signaled a new era of structured vigilance. She also assured that ACTU would be supported with the necessary resources to function effectively.
“Integrity is not optional; it is the soul of public service, and we are committed to protecting it,” she added.

In a goodwill message on behalf of the ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, the Director of the Corruption Monitoring and Evaluation Department, Mr. Kayode Kupolati, praised the Ministry for aligning with national anti-corruption efforts.
He explained that ACTU would serve as an internal mechanism for accountability and ethical compliance in public service. According to him, the Unit’s responsibilities include staff sensitization, corruption risk assessments, enforcement of the Ministry’s code of ethics, and preliminary investigations.
“ACTU is not a watchdog to management but a support system that works under the Permanent Secretary’s supervision,” Kupolati clarified.
He urged the Ministry to provide ACTU with institutional backing, including office space and involvement in decision-making processes, as outlined in federal circulars.
“I congratulate the newly appointed ACTU members. Discharge your duties with integrity, professionalism, and courage. The ICPC remains committed to supporting you,” he said.
In her response, the newly inducted ACTU Chairperson, Mrs. Anita Odeh, expressed appreciation to the Ministry and the ICPC for the opportunity to serve, pledging to lead the Unit with transparency and commitment.
“We promise to uphold the values of integrity, accountability, and service. May God guide us all,” she said during her vote of thanks.
The ceremony ended with the administration of the Oath of Allegiance by an ICPC legal officer and a group photograph featuring the ICPC delegation, Ministry officials, and the ACTU members.
