IGP Egbetokun Honours Police Officers of the Year, Holds Talks on Improved Retirement Benefits

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has decorated two distinguished officers, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aliyu Shaba and Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Sentome Obi, winners of the Police Officer of the Year Award for 2023 and 2024 respectively.

This is disclosed in a statement by Police Spokesperson, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The decoration ceremony, held at the IGP Smart Conference Room, Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, followed their recent promotions. According to the IGP, the recognition reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to rewarding officers who demonstrate exceptional professionalism, dedication, and service discipline.

Egbetokun reiterated the Force Management’s decision that any officer who wins the Police Officer of the Year Award, receives the IGP Commendation Award, or secures a category award for two consecutive years, will be recommended to the Police Service Commission for accelerated promotion.

“The doors of honour and recognition are wide open, but they can only be earned through hard work, professionalism, excellence, and discipline,” he stated.

In a related development, the IGP hosted a delegation from the National Pension Commission (PenCom) led by its Director-General, Ms. Omolola B. Oluworaran, alongside the Managing Director of NPF Pensions Limited, Mr. Kolade Morakinyo. The meeting, attended by senior police officers from the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police and above, featured an extended interactive session on improving retirement benefits for serving and retired officers.

The discussions addressed long-standing welfare concerns, with the IGP expressing optimism that ongoing efforts would soon lead to tangible improvements in the living conditions of retired personnel.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the welfare of officers, both serving and retired, Egbetokun pledged to build a Police Force that is professionally competent, service-driven, rule-of-law compliant, and people-friendly.
