According to the report, the Commissioner voluntarily applied on July 18, 2025, to serve as surety for the defendant and swore to an affidavit confirming his position as a serving Commissioner, pledging to comply with all bail conditions until the conclusion of the trial. The committee noted that he was fully aware that the court’s bail conditions required a serving Commissioner or a member of the State Executive Council to stand as surety. However, it found that he failed to exercise due diligence before making the decision, despite having both constructive and actual knowledge of the drug-related nature of the charges.
The committee further stated that the Commissioner was aware of the Kano State Government’s strong stance against drug trafficking, abuse, youth criminality, and other related offences. It found no evidence of any prior acquaintance between him and the defendant, nor any indication that financial benefit or material inducement influenced his decision. It also clarified that the Commissioner did not deposit any money for the bail, including the ₦5 million mentioned in the defendant’s affidavit.
Governor Yusuf commended the committee for its professionalism, objectivity, and commitment to truth, assuring that the recommendations would be carefully reviewed and appropriate action taken in line with due process and public interest. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to transparency, justice, and discipline in public service, and reaffirmed that the state government remains resolute in its fight against drug-related crimes and social misconduct affecting the youth and the wider society.
