Board takes disciplinary actions against 224 NCoS officers
The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has concluded the review of 224 disciplinary cases involving personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), leading to a range of sanctions aimed at reinforcing discipline and professionalism within the Service.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Public Relations Officer of NCoS, Umar Abubakar, said the disciplinary actions were approved following recommendations by the Board’s Disciplinary and General Purpose Committee, after what was described as “extensive investigations and due process.”
According to the statement, the outcomes of the review include:
15 officers dismissed from service for serious misconduct and violations of official regulations.
59 personnel demoted for breaching professional standards.
42 officers issued written warnings as corrective measures.
8 officers compulsorily retired from the Service.

7 staff placed on suspension pending the outcome of ongoing investigations.
In a particularly severe case, one officer has been recommended for prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after suspension.
Meanwhile, 16 officers were exonerated after being found not guilty of the allegations leveled against them.
The NCoS spokesperson added that the Board, under the leadership of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunde-Ojo, remains committed to enforcing discipline and maintaining high ethical and professional standards across the Service.
The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, assured the public that all disciplinary matters will be handled fairly and in strict accordance with established rules and procedures. He also urged public support in upholding the values of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
