NIPR Inducts 80 New PR Professionals in Kano to its 31,000-Strong Membership
The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has inducted more than 80 Information Officers and public relations practitioners during a special ceremony in Kano, in what has been described as one of the largest single-state inductions in the Institute’s history.
The Spokespersons Digest reports that the event, which drew senior government officials, media professionals, academics, and stakeholders from the public and private sectors, saw 72 inductees from the Kano State Government, three from Jigawa State, and five from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and other private organisations.
Officiating the ceremony, NIPR President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, revealed that the Institute currently boasts over 31,000 registered members across Nigeria and maintains global professional alliances with 126 countries. He urged the new members to actively engage in NIPR activities, pursue continuous learning, and aspire to attain higher professional ranks, including the prestigious Fellow (FNIPR) status.
The orientation lecture, delivered by communication scholar, Associate Professor Sule Ya’u Sule, enlightened inductees on the responsibilities of professional membership. He explained NIPR’s five membership categories—student, graduate, associate, full membership, and fellow—and urged them to embrace lifelong learning, ethical conduct, and active participation in professional development.
Among the inductees was the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, who reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to upholding ethical standards in information management and strategic communication.
