Security Forces Eliminate 2 Bandits in Bauchi as Police Inspector, Civilian Shot Dead in Benue
Security forces across Nigeria recorded mixed results in separate operations on August 8, 2025, with two armed bandits neutralized in Bauchi State, while a police inspector and a civilian were killed in an attack in Benue State.
In Bauchi, a coordinated operation in Alkaleri Local Government Area led to the elimination of two suspected bandits and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle. At about 4:00 p.m., local vigilantes from Duguri Town, on routine patrol between Dogon Ruwa village and Yakaki Forest, sighted six armed men. The team tracked the suspects and staged an ambush, sparking a brief but intense exchange of gunfire. Two of the assailants were killed, and an AK-47 rifle, without ammunition, was recovered from the scene.

In a separate incident in Benue State, suspected Fulani herders attacked Ipelle village in Agatu Local Government Area, killing Inspector Daniel Omanyebu, who was attached to the Ipelle Police Outpost under Agatu Division, as well as a civilian. Police sources said the attack prompted the deployment of multiple tactical units, including Operation Zenda, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), and divisional patrol teams.
The Area Commander, Otukpo, has since relocated to Agatu to coordinate and oversee ongoing operations aimed at apprehending the perpetrators. The body of the fallen inspector has been recovered and deposited at the mortuary, while the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has taken over the case.
These incidents highlight the dual realities confronting Nigeria’s security forces—registering operational successes in some regions while facing deadly challenges in others.
