NAF Airstrikes Kill Scores of Bandits in Zamfara Forest
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced the killing of scores of armed bandits, including several notorious kingpins, during a coordinated air and ground operation in Zamfara State.
The operation, carried out on August 10 under Operation Fasan Yamma, targeted Makakkari Forest following intelligence reports of an imminent attack on a farming community.
According to NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions had confirmed the movement of more than 400 bandits in the area. The precision strikes, he said, successfully neutralized the threat before it reached civilian settlements.

“The operation involved synchronized airstrikes and ground assaults that resulted in the deaths of several notorious kingpins and scores of their fighters. The synergy between air and land components made this mission exceptional,” Ejodame stated in a press release issued on Monday.
He added that the mission was part of ongoing efforts by the Armed Forces to dismantle bandit networks and protect farming communities in the North West, where criminal groups have been responsible for mass killings, kidnappings, and destruction of farmlands.
Makakkari Forest, which has long served as a hideout for armed gangs, is considered a major staging ground for attacks in Zamfara and neighbouring states. Security sources say the latest offensive has significantly disrupted the bandits’ operational capacity.
The NAF reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining air and ground offensives until the region is safe for residents to live and farm without fear.
