Troops Eliminate Boko Haram Terrorists, Recover Firearms in Borno, Yobe

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised several Boko Haram fighters in separate operations in Borno and Yobe states, recovering a cache of arms and ammunition.

In Kareto, Borno State, soldiers from the 145 Battalion, Damasak, under Sector 3, foiled an attempted ambush by the insurgents on Monday. Military sources said the attackers detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) before opening fire on the troops.

“The soldiers quickly launched anti-ambush manoeuvres, outflanking the terrorists and killing many on the spot,” a source told Zagazola Makama.

Items recovered after the firefight included one PKT automatic anti-aircraft machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, four AK-47 magazines, a large quantity of 7.62mm ammunition, and two 36 hand grenades. Other items seized were a Motorola battery, power bank, motorcycle, rifle butt, 12 blankets, motorcycle pump, electrical wires, and other sundry materials.

In a separate operation, troops of the 233 Battalion, operating under Sector 2, alongside members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), clashed with insurgents at Sassawa village in Yobe State. Two terrorists were killed in the encounter, while an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 23 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered.

According to security sources, troops have maintained an aggressive operational posture to deny the insurgents freedom of movement and to sustain the overall mandate of Operation Hadin Kai.
