CCC Reviews Keyamo’s Crisis Management in Aviation Disputes

The Centre for Crisis Communication (CCC) has reviewed the intervention of the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Chief Festus Keyamo, SAN, in resolving recent high-profile disputes in the aviation sector, describing it as a “measured and strategic” approach to conflict resolution.

The disputes involved Ms. Comfort Emmanson and Ibom Airline, as well as Fuji music star, Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (Kwam 1), and ValueJet personnel. The cases had attracted widespread public attention, raising concerns about tensions between passengers and airline operators.

In a statement signed by its Chairman, Major General Chris Olukolade (rtd), the CCC said the Minister’s decision to facilitate the withdrawal of criminal complaints, reduce penalties, and restore operating privileges—while insisting on retraining aviation personnel and airline staff—struck an important balance between justice and public trust.

“These measures, if fully implemented, will not only improve service culture but also build public confidence in the sector’s ability to handle disputes fairly and professionally,” the statement noted.

According to the CCC, the Minister’s transparency in publicly outlining facts, acknowledging shared culpability, and detailing corrective steps helped defuse tensions and prevent further media escalation. The organisation urged all aviation stakeholders to use the resolution as a springboard for fostering mutual respect, cooperation, and improved service standards across Nigerian airports.

It added that consistent enforcement of the agreed measures, coupled with regular public updates, could make the intervention a model for managing similar crises in other public-facing sectors.
