Police Rescue Victims of Human Trafficking in Enugu, Arrest Suspected Kidnappers in Taraba

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has recorded fresh successes in its fight against human trafficking and kidnapping, with operatives in Enugu and Taraba States rescuing two victims, arresting three suspects, and recovering an AK-47 rifle.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the breakthroughs were achieved in two separate operations carried out between July 30 and August 13, 2025.

In Enugu, operatives of the state command, while on routine patrol along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway, intercepted a suspected human trafficker, Raymond Sunday Wonna, 30, and rescued two young females — Miracle Ogar, 18, and Angela Kingsley, 16.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victims had been lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, under the false promise of job opportunities in Ghana. Wonna, who claimed to be a casual labourer, allegedly intended to take them to work in a restaurant owned by his “baby mama” in Ghana without their parents’ consent.

The police further disclosed that while lodging the girls in a hotel pending departure, the suspect attempted to sexually assault them. The victims have since been reunited with their families, while efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the trafficking ring.

In Taraba State, operatives acting on credible intelligence and working alongside local security outfits stormed Mahadi Forest in Gassol Local Government Area, arresting Yahaya Umar, 20, and Mohammed Umar, 47. The suspects were found in possession of an AK-47 rifle and confessed to belonging to a kidnapping syndicate linked to several attacks in Plateau and Taraba States.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their swift action and vigilance. He assured Nigerians of the Force’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, directing a meticulous investigation to ensure the prosecution of all culprits.

“These accomplishments underscore the importance of community vigilance, intelligence-led policing, and decisive enforcement action,” the IGP said.

The NPF urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to aid in the fight against criminal activities across the country.
