FG Earmarks N13bn to Boost Power Infrastructure in Lagos, Ogun

The Federal Government has approved the sum of N13 billion for critical power infrastructure projects in Lagos and Ogun States, as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s electricity supply and boost industrial growth.

Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, disclosed this while briefing journalists shortly after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday, according to a report by BBC Hausa Service.

Adelabu explained that four approvals were granted under the package, including the payment of compensation to property owners whose lands will be affected by the projects. Out of the total amount, N13 billion has been earmarked specifically for compensation.

He added that the FEC also gave approval for the procurement of new power transformers aimed at upgrading the ageing national grid. According to him, the upgrades are designed to improve electricity distribution, reduce outages, and provide more reliable power supply to businesses and households.

“The objective of these interventions is to ensure manufacturers and other key sectors of the economy have access to stable electricity, which will, in turn, drive economic growth and create jobs,” Adelabu stated.

The government’s decision comes amid increasing pressure to expand Nigeria’s power infrastructure to meet rising demand and support industrialization in major economic hubs like Lagos and Ogun.
