Akwa Ibom Police Arrest Wanted Kidnap Kingpin

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a notorious kidnap kingpin, Okon Asuquo Udo, who had been on the command’s wanted list for his alleged involvement in several high-profile abductions across the state.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement released in Uyo on Sunday. She said the suspect, a native of Ube village in Okobo Local Government Area, was apprehended in his hometown after being on the run for several months.

According to the statement, Udo is a principal suspect in the abduction of a Paramount Ruler (name withheld) in October 2024, as well as the kidnap of the wife of an Executive Chairman (name withheld) in November 2024. He is also believed to have participated in multiple other kidnapping operations spanning Oron, Mbo, and Okobo Local Government Areas.

“Following credible intelligence on August 13, 2025, at about 1100 hours, operatives of the Command apprehended the suspect, one Okon Asuquo Udo, a male resident of Ube village in Okobo LGA. Udo had been on the Command’s wanted list for alleged involvement in several kidnap incidents,” the statement read in part.

The police said discreet investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the gang and recover their operational weapons.

The command commended its operatives for the successful arrest and reassured residents of its commitment to rid the state of violent crimes.
