Badaru Urges NDA Graduates to Strengthen Institutions for Good Governance
The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has called on graduating participants of the National Defence College (NDC) to strengthen institutions as the foundation for good governance and national stability.
Speaking at the Graduation Lecture for Course 33, held at the NDC Auditorium in Abuja, Badaru stressed that “strong nations are built on strong institutions, not strong individuals.”
He noted that reforms and leadership appointments introduced under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda were aimed at entrenching accountability and professionalism across government institutions, including the defence sector.

The Minister urged the graduates to embrace principled leadership, reminding them that leadership is a trust. “Your responsibility is to leave behind systems stronger than you found them,” he told the audience, encouraging them to lead with integrity, accountability, and a commitment to institutional strengthening.
Badaru also highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in advancing governance, peace, and development. He commended African governments, the African Union, and ECOWAS for their efforts in consolidating democracy and stability, while calling for deeper collaboration to sustain those gains across the continent.
The Defence Minister further applauded President Tinubu for his unwavering support for the Armed Forces and the National Defence College, adding that the administration remained committed to building professional and accountable institutions.
He also acknowledged the contribution of former Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, whose lecture at the event he described as an inspiration for the next generation of African leaders.
