IGP, Ministry Partner to Provide Affordable Houses for Police Personnel

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development to provide affordable housing for police personnel across the country.

The initiative, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is expected to deliver thousands of housing units to officers as part of efforts to improve their welfare and enhance operational efficiency.

The Honourable Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, disclosed this on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters in Abuja. He was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib M. L. Belgore, and other senior officials of the ministry.

Dangiwa explained that the collaboration would also involve the creation of a National Task Force drawn from relevant ministries, agencies, and the Nigeria Police Force to safeguard federal government assets. According to him, the step became necessary following increasing encroachment on government lands, which has stalled several critical national projects.

Commending the Nigeria Police Force for its professionalism and resilience, the minister said the housing scheme would not only address the welfare needs of personnel but also boost their effectiveness in safeguarding lives and property.

In his response, IGP Egbetokun described the initiative as a timely intervention that directly responds to one of the most pressing welfare needs of officers. He stressed that welfare is central to the operational capacity of the Police, noting that adequate and affordable housing is a vital component.

He further pledged the Police Force’s full support for the proposed National Task Force, adding that the recovery and protection of encroached federal lands was of urgent national importance.

“The Police will continue to work hand in hand with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and other stakeholders to ensure the success of these initiatives in the interest of national development and the well-being of Nigerians,” Egbetokun assured.

The Force reiterated its commitment to professionalism, excellence, and service to the nation while prioritising the welfare of officers and men.
