Kano Police Discipline Officers Caught in Viral Video, Say Incident Not Linked to By-Elections
Kano State Police have confirmed that five officers seen in a viral social media video allegedly assisting a politician in distributing cash were acting inappropriately during an official event, not during the 16th August re-run and by-elections.

According to the Kano State Police Command, the incident occurred on Thursday, 10th July 2025, following a ceremony at the Coronation Hall of the Kano State Government House. The officers were on duty to provide security at the event but were observed engaging in unprofessional conduct.
The Command emphasized that disciplinary measures are being taken against the officers to preserve the integrity and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force.
SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, reiterated the Command’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of discipline, ethics, and public trust.
