Lagos Police Nab Ex-Convict Over Cultism, Recover Gun
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested an ex-convict, identified as Onamade Kayode, for alleged involvement in cultism and armed robbery, recovering a firearm concealed in a toilet pipe.
Police spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Tuesday, said operatives of Ijede Division apprehended the suspect on August 18, 2025, following complaints that he was brandishing a locally made gun and threatening residents at Sabon Kasuwa, Abule Eko.

According to the statement, officers traced Kayode to an uncompleted building, where he was arrested. Investigations revealed that he had previously served a prison term for cultism-related offences before his release in 2022.
The suspect, who admitted to being in possession of a firearm, reportedly led operatives to the toilet pipe within the building, where the locally made gun was recovered. He is said to be cooperating with investigators to track down other members of his cult group and recover additional weapons.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the swift response of the Ijede Division, which led to the arrest and recovery. He urged Lagos residents to shun cultism, remain law-abiding, and continue to support security agencies with credible information to help rid communities of crime.
