Dozens of Boko Haram Terrorists Killed as Military Foils Attacks in Borno, Yobe
The Nigerian military has eliminated dozens of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters in a series of coordinated operations across Borno and Yobe States.
According to a statement by the Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), the operations were conducted between August 21 and 23, 2025, with support from the Air Component. The engagements led to the killing of several insurgents, including two top commanders.
Troops reportedly foiled coordinated terrorist attacks on Bita and Wulgo in Borno State, where eleven insurgents were neutralised.
Among those killed were identified commanders Abu Nazir, also known as Munzir of Juye, and Abu Fatima, the Munzir of Koloram. The troops also recovered rifles, ammunition, and six motorcycles belonging to the insurgents.
In another encounter on August 22, troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, backed by precision airstrikes, repelled a night assault on their Forward Operating Base in Kumshe.

The statement further disclosed that troops under Sector 1 launched an offensive at Dipchari near Banki Junction in Bama Local Government Area on the same day. Scores of terrorists were neutralised in the firefight, and recovered items included Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, AK-47 rifles, loaded magazines, rounds of ammunition, and motorcycles.
Similarly, on August 23, troops of Sector 2, operating with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), carried out a long-range tactical raid in Ndoksa, near Buni Gari in Yobe State. The mission led to the elimination of more insurgents, with additional rifles and motorcycles recovered.
The military high command commended the gallantry and resilience of the troops, urging them to sustain the momentum as counter-insurgency operations intensify across the region.
