Police Foil Bandits Attack in Benue, Arrest Couple, Nurse Over Sale of Newborn in Enugu
The Police in Benue State on Monday repelled an attack on two communities in Agatu Local Government Area.
The incident occurred around 5:56 p.m. when suspected armed herders invaded Egwuma and Ipele communities.
According to police sources, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Agatu swiftly mobilised tactical teams stationed in the area, engaging the attackers in a fierce gun battle.
The superior firepower of the police forced the assailants to retreat through the swampy forest. Security operatives have since launched a manhunt in the surrounding bushes to track down the suspects, while additional tactical teams and Police Mobile Force (PMF) units have been deployed for reinforcement.

In another incident,the Enugu State Police Command has arrested a couple and a nurse for allegedly engaging in child trafficking after selling a day-old baby girl.
The suspects, identified as 30-year-old Godwin Enyikpo and his 25-year-old wife, Ndidi, both residents behind Emenite Company in Emene, were apprehended by detectives from the Emene Police Division following credible intelligence.
Also arrested was 32-year-old nurse, Ijeoma Oma, who reportedly facilitated the sale of the infant about three weeks ago.
Police sources confirmed that efforts have been intensified to track down other accomplices and recover the baby. The Commissioner of Police has directed a thorough investigation to ensure all individuals linked to the crime are brought to justice.
