Troops Repel Boko Haram/ISWAP Attack, Eliminate Scores in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled an attempted attack by Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists on their Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Gajigana, Nganzai Local Government Area of Borno State.

The attack, which occurred around 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday, was met with swift resistance from the troops. A reinforcement team later joined the operation and launched a clearance offensive against the insurgents.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that several terrorists were neutralized during the encounter. Unfortunately, one soldier lost his life in action, while another sustained injuries. The wounded personnel has since been evacuated for medical treatment, and the fallen hero’s remains have been deposited at the 7 Division Military Morgue in Maiduguri.

During the exploitation phase, troops recovered a cache of weapons and equipment from the terrorists, including one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, two Baofeng radios, and belted ammunition for a machine gun.

The sources added that the terrorists retreated in disarray and likely suffered heavy casualties, though the exact number could not be immediately confirmed.

They further noted that while the security situation in the area remains calm, it is still considered unpredictable due to the persistent threats posed by insurgents.
