Police forces in Sokoto and Lagos have made significant strides in two separate high-profile cases, one involving the rescue of a kidnapped senior officer and another concerning a serious allegation of sexual assault at a premier university, PRNigeria reports.
Earlier, the Sokoto State Police Command has successfully rescued Superintendent of Police (SP) Musa Amadu, who was abducted by suspected kidnappers earlier this week.
According to sources, the officer was first reported missing on Tuesday, August 27, after his family alerted the command that he had failed to return home and was unreachable by phone. The situation was confirmed as a kidnapping the following day, August 28, when the victim’s brother received a ransom demand from the abductors.

The command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit immediately took over the investigation. Utilizing technical intelligence, officers tracked SP Amadu to an isolated area near the back gate of Usman Danfodio University along the Illela road.
He was successfully rescued at approximately 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday. Sources described the senior officer as weak and disoriented at the time of his recovery. He was promptly rushed to a hospital for medical treatment and observation.
The police have also confirmed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the abduction. Investigations are ongoing.
In a separate incident, the Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged rape of a 20-year-old student of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, by a lecturer in the institution.
The survivor, identified as Owonifari Fiyinfoluwa, a 300-level student, formally reported the incident to the police on Wednesday, August 28.
In her statement, she alleged that on the afternoon of Thursday, August 22, her lecturer, Dr. Samuel Ojogbo, invited her into his office on campus and then forcefully raped her.
A team of detectives has visited the scene of the alleged crime to conduct an investigation. The survivor was also taken to a hospital for medical treatment and examination.
