Troops Sustain Offensive Against Bandits, Eliminate Scores in North West, North Central Regions
Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have continued to sustain pressure on bandits and terrorists across the North West and parts of North Central Nigeria, recording significant successes in recent operations, PRNigeria reports.
Security sources that on August 29, troops repelled an attack by suspected bandits on Marabar Kankara and Unguwar Tashan Gemu villages in Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State. Acting swiftly in collaboration with police operatives and community watch groups, the troops blocked entry and exit routes, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, and successfully repelled the incursion.
According to Zagazola, the bandits reportedly suffered casualties before retreating, while normalcy was restored in the affected communities, and patrols and surveillance intensified to prevent further attacks.
In addition to the Katsina operation, troops have carried out a series of offensive and clearance operations across the Joint Operations Areas (JOAs) in Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi, Kwara, and Niger States between August 27 and 28, achieving multiple gains.

Sabon Birni, Sokoto State – Troops repelled a terrorist attack and rescued a kidnapped victim, safely returning him to his family.

Tsabre village, Isa LGA, Sokoto State – Troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, three empty magazines, and 10 rounds of ammunition, rescuing another kidnapped victim.
Rore village, Irepodun LGA, Kwara State – Terrorists killed two locals before troops arrived, prompting intensified patrols in the area.
Babanna FOB, Borgu LGA, Niger State – Troops repelled a terrorist attack; one soldier was injured, and subsequent operations recovered a neutralised terrorist, an AK-47 rifle, four magazines with 60 rounds, 323 rounds of 7.62x54mm ammunition, and a mobile phone.
Sources said the operations have disrupted terrorist and bandit mobility, degraded their logistics, and led to the rescue of kidnapped victims. The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations, collaborating with vigilantes and other security agencies to ensure lasting peace in the region despite isolated setbacks.
