Katsina Police Intercept 2 Gunrunners, Seize, Firearms, Ammunition

The Katsina State Police Command has intercepted a massive arms consignment and arrested two suspected gun runners in a major operation aimed at curbing the proliferation of illegal weapons in the state.

The breakthrough occurred at about 4:35 a.m. on Monday when officers of the Ingawa Division, while on patrol along the Ingawa–Karkarku village route, flagged down a blue Volkswagen Golf with registration number RSH 528 BY ABJ. A search of the vehicle revealed a cache of deadly weapons concealed within.

The suspects, identified as 25-year-old Abdulsalam Muhammad and 23-year-old Aminu Mamman, both residents of Baure village in Safana Local Government Area, were apprehended on the spot.

Recovered items include:

One General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) with breach number Z8826.

1,063 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm AK-47 ammunition.

232 rounds of 7.62 x 69mm PKT ammunition.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the weapons were being transported from Hadejia in Jigawa State to Safana LGA, Katsina. Authorities say the deadly cargo could have fueled violent attacks if it had slipped through security checks.

Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, hailed the police for their vigilance and professionalism, describing the operation as “a crushing blow to criminal supply chains.”

“This successful interception demonstrates the government’s unwavering commitment to disrupting networks of violence before they endanger innocent citizens,” he said in a statement.

Police have launched a full investigation to trace the origin of the sophisticated arsenal, identify other members of the gun-running network, and determine its ultimate destination.

The Katsina State Government pledged continued support for security agencies in their efforts to tackle criminality and safeguard lives and property across the state.
