According to the sources, the attack triggered a fierce gun battle that lasted for nearly an hour. The superior firepower of the security forces eventually forced the bandits, who had mobilized in large numbers, to retreat with several casualties reported on their side.
“Their mission was completely foiled, and the troops were able to restore calm to the area,” one of the sources told Zagazola Makama.
However, the confrontation claimed the life of a naval rating, an Ordinary Seaman, who sustained fatal gunshot wounds during the exchange.
Following the incident, security operatives cleared the affected area and have since intensified efforts to track down the fleeing assailants to prevent further threats in the axis.
Katsina, like several states in Nigeria’s North-West region, has been plagued by recurrent banditry attacks, prompting ongoing joint military operations aimed at restoring peace and security in the troubled communities.
