Troops Eliminate Terrorists, Rescue 9 Abducted Women, Children in Sokoto, Zamfara

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA (OPFY) have rescued nine kidnapped victims, including women and children, during a late-night operation that also saw the neutralization of several terrorists in Shinkafi Local Government Area (LGA) of Zamfara State.

The incident occurred on September 1, 2025, following credible intelligence that terrorists were moving through a known crossing point along the Isa–Shinkafi–Kaura Namoda Road, a notorious axis linking Sokoto and Zamfara States.

According to military sources, the terrorists, who had abducted victims from Garin Bature village in Sabon Birni LGA of Sokoto State, attempted to use their captives as human shields after spotting the troops. However, the soldiers engaged them in a decisive encounter, neutralizing some of the criminals while others fled with gunshot wounds.

During the operation, troops rescued nine victims comprising three adult females and six children. They were immediately evacuated to the General Hospital in Shinkafi for medical attention.

Items recovered from the scene include one AK-47 rifle with two magazines containing 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, three mobile phones, and a pair of desert camouflage uniform believed to belong to the fleeing terrorists.

The rescued victims were handed over to officials of Shinkafi LGA, who assured that arrangements were being made to reunite them with their families.

Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, said the operation highlights the troops’ commitment to protecting lives and restoring security across the North-West and parts of the North-Central region.

“OPFY reassures residents of its determination to sustain aggressive operations until terrorism and banditry are completely stamped out. We urge members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support our efforts,” he stated.
