Police Arrest Four after ₦5m Ransom Payment in Anambra
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four suspected members of an armed robbery and kidnapping syndicate allegedly responsible for the abduction of two victims in Amansea, Awka, last month.
Police spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed in a statement on Tuesday that operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, made the arrests in the early hours of September 1 following credible intelligence.
The suspects, identified as Chigozie Igboekwu, 31; Odumegwu Chibuike, 23; Jonah Awudu, 40; and Okechukwu Nwari, 33 were apprehended in connection with a kidnapping case reported on August 14, 2025.

According to the police, investigations revealed that the suspects conspired on August 12 at about 7:00 p.m. to abduct two victims in Amansea. The victims were held for two days in a bush at Ugwuoba, Enugu State, until their families paid a ransom of ₦5 million before their release.
“During the operation, two pump action guns and nine live cartridges were recovered from the suspects. They have voluntarily confessed to the crime and provided details of their activities,” the statement said.
Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their resilience and assured residents of the Command’s commitment to rid the state of criminal elements. He also vowed that the suspects would face justice.
“The Command remains resolute in its mission to ensure safety and security across Anambra. We will not relent in tracking down other members of the gang still at large,” CP Orutugu said.
The police disclosed that the case would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations, even as operations continue to apprehend fleeing accomplices.
