Troops Foil Ambush in Borno, Kill 13 Terrorists, Recover Weapons
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled an attempted ambush by Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters along the Gubio–Damasak road in Borno State, killing 13 insurgents and recovering arms and ammunition.
The attack, which occurred on Wednesday near Kareto in Mobbar Local Government Area, targeted a military convoy escorting humanitarian supplies to Damasak. The terrorists reportedly detonated two command Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) before opening fire on the convoy.
Military sources said the troops responded swiftly, taking battle positions and unleashing superior firepower that overwhelmed the insurgents.
“In the ensuing exchange, 13 terrorists were neutralised instantly, while others fled in disarray. The troops pursued the fleeing elements and further exploited the area,” one source disclosed.

Recovered items included eight AK-47 rifles, ten magazines, a large cache of 7.62mm ammunition, several primed IEDs, detonating cords, and a camel bag.
The operation, however, was not without setbacks. One soldier sustained a minor injury and is reported to be in stable condition. Four Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) tyres were damaged, while two trucks were destroyed by fire during the firefight.
Despite the attack, the convoy successfully completed its mission, with humanitarian supplies secured and delivered to Damasak.
Security sources added that clearance operations have been intensified in the general area to deny terrorists freedom of movement and ensure safe corridors for humanitarian access.
Operation Hadin Kai has continued to play a dual role in the North-East, providing both combat support and humanitarian escort services as troops sustain pressure on the remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP operating in remote border communities.
