Military Foil Terrorists Attack, Recover Dozens of Rustled Livestock in Sokoto, Kebbi
of Operation FANSAN YANMA (OPFY) have intensified operations against livestock rustlers, foiling separate incidents in Kebbi and Sokoto States and recovering nearly 100 stolen animals.
In Gulma village, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, armed terrorists stormed the community in an attempt to rustle cattle. Troops swiftly mobilised and intercepted the criminals at Zazzaga along the Kangiwa–Argungu road, forcing them to abandon the herd. A total of 30 cows were recovered and handed over to Alhaji Sule, the Sarkin Kara of Lailaba village, for return to their rightful owners.

Similarly, in Sokoto State, troops engaged terrorists in a fierce gun battle at Sauna/Goboro Forest, which straddles Illela and Tangaza Local Government Areas. The confrontation occurred on September 2, when the criminals attempted to move rustled animals through the area. After heavy exchange of fire, the terrorists fled, abandoning 68 livestock that were later handed over to the Maigari of Sauna village for onward delivery to Tangaza LGA officials.
Military sources confirmed that one Panhard vehicle developed a mechanical fault during the Sokoto operation but noted that repairs were already underway.
Community leaders in Kebbi and Sokoto commended the military for their swift interventions, stressing that the recovery of livestock has not only restored hope to the victims but also sent a strong signal to rustlers operating in the region.
