Troops Ambush Militia Plotting Attack on Plateau Villagers

Troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have foiled a planned militia attack on communities in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.

Acting on credible intelligence, the troops on Thursday, September 4, laid an ambush at Kaskra in Ropp District, intercepting a militia suspected to be mobilised for an attack on Nding Village.

During the operation, the soldiers arrested one armed suspect and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the militia was mobilised from a nearby community to carry out coordinated attacks in Fann District, Barkin Ladi LGA. The suspect is currently in custody undergoing interrogation to aid further operations.

Military authorities confirmed that follow-up operations are ongoing to track other armed militias involved in the planned assault and to recover additional weapons.

Major Samson Nantip Zhakom, Media Information Officer of Operation Enduring Peace, reaffirmed the troops’ commitment to protecting civilians and maintaining stability in Plateau State.

“The Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace remains resolute in ensuring peace and security within its Joint Operations Area. Troops will continue to work tirelessly to ensure that communities are safe from attacks,” he said.

The swift intervention has been hailed as a crucial success in preventing yet another cycle of violence in Plateau, a state that has endured years of deadly communal clashes and bandit incursions.
