Troops Recover Weapons in Kwara Operation, Donate Fertiliser to Farmers in Zamfara

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA (OPFY) have intensified efforts to tackle insecurity across the North-Central and North-West regions with simultaneous kinetic and non-kinetic interventions, PRNigeria reports.

In Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, troops conducted a successful ambush against terrorists along the Lema–Daban Lema road, following credible intelligence on their movement. Although the terrorists fled after a brief encounter, the troops recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle.

The Commander, Sector 3 OPFY, Maj.-Gen. C.R. Nnebeife, later visited Forward Operating Base (FOB) Patigi alongside the Commander of 22 Brigade, Brig.-Gen. E.B. Barkins, to assess troops’ combat readiness. During the visit, Nnebeife paid a courtesy call on the Etsu of Patigi, commending traditional rulers for their support in the fight against insecurity. He assured residents of Kwara that the Nigerian Army remains committed to safeguarding lives and livelihoods, particularly along the River Niger axis where terrorists often stage incursions.

Meanwhile, in Zamfara State, the Theatre Commander of OPFY, Maj.-Gen. O.O. Soyele, represented by Brig.-Gen. N. Mbaka, donated 200 bags of fertiliser to farmers in Tsafe Local Government Area as part of the Defence Headquarters’ civil-military cooperation initiative. The items were formally handed over to the Emir of Tsafe, HRH Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Bawa.

According to Zagazola, Soyele explained that the gesture was aimed at supporting agriculture, boosting food security, and strengthening the resilience of rural communities vulnerable to terrorist attacks. He stressed that OPFY would continue to complement combat operations with non-kinetic interventions to win the trust of the people.

The Emir of Tsafe described the intervention as timely and pledged the cooperation of his subjects in the fight against insecurity. Similarly, community leaders in both Kwara and Zamfara praised the military’s proactive operations, noting that the recovery of arms and support for farmers would deter criminals while fostering peace and development.
