Army Neutralise Scores of Bandits as 8 Security Guards Killed in Katsina

Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded major gains in ongoing clearance operations against bandits in Katsina State, even as suspected gunmen staged a deadly ambush on members of the C-Watch security outfit in the state, PRNigeria reports.

Security sources confirmed that the military operations, which commenced on Friday in Kankara Local Government Area, targeted several bandit hideouts. The troops, backed by other security components, engaged the criminals in fierce exchanges of fire, leading to the elimination of scores of them.

According to Zagazola, the operations were still ongoing, with troops pursuing fleeing bandits into surrounding forest corridors.

However, in a separate incident the same day, suspected bandits ambushed C-Watch operatives in Dandume Local Government Area. The incident occurred around midnight when the gunmen invaded a village in the area.

Local residents said the C-Watch operatives had initially responded to a distress call, rescuing eight villagers who sustained gunshot injuries during the attack. But on their way back, the operatives reportedly ran into an ambush, during which the assailants opened fire, killing eight persons and torching two patrol vehicles belonging to the outfit.

As of press time, military authorities were yet to issue an official statement on both the clearance operations and the ambush.
