Customs Recruitment: 286,697 Applicants to Sit for Online Test

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that 286,697 applicants have been shortlisted to participate in the second phase of its ongoing recruitment exercise.

The exercise, which began with an advertisement in national dailies on December 27, 2024, is aimed at filling 3,927 vacancies across the Superintendent, Inspectorate, and Customs Assistant cadres. According to the Service, a total of 573,523 applications were received during the first phase.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the Service said the next stage will be a Computer-Based Test (CBT) scheduled for September 14–21, 2025. The test will be conducted online, reflecting what the Service described as its “commitment to transparency, accessibility, and fairness.”

Shortlisted candidates are expected to undertake the CBT at any convenient location with reliable internet access, but only with a laptop or desktop computer equipped with a webcam. Mobile phones will not be allowed. A facial verification process will be required at login.

“The CBT application is sensitive to noise and movement. Candidates must remain focused, avoid whispering, and minimise background distractions as these may result in automatic logout. Switching between windows will be flagged as malpractice and may lead to disqualification,” Maiwada cautioned.

To familiarise candidates with the process, the NCS has also introduced a mandatory pre-test exercise, which will be conducted two days before the actual CBT. Shortlisted applicants will receive separate links for the pre-test and the main examination.

The Service further disclosed that applicants under the Superintendent Cadre (Level 8) will sit for an additional CBT in the subsequent phase of the recruitment. This, however, does not apply to the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.

Maiwada assured the public that the recruitment exercise will remain merit-based and transparent, urging applicants to rely solely on the NCS’s verified communication platforms for authentic updates. He emphasised that the Service does not charge fees or conduct recruitment through social media channels.
