Police Nab Six for Theft of Gold Worth Over ₦109m in Kebbi
Police in Kebbi State have arrested six suspects, including a prison officer, in connection with the theft of gold jewelry valued at over ₦109.5 million. The arrest followed a complaint filed on September 4, 2025, by Hajiya Rabi, who reported that gold items belonging to her daughter and other children had been stolen from her residence in Ka’oje town.
The stolen items, which have a cumulative weight of 782.7 grams, included five gold necklaces, nine gold bangles, and four gold rings.
Investigation Leads to Multiple Suspects
Detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) quickly launched an investigation that led to the arrest of Ibrahim Abubakar Ka’oje, an officer with the Nigerian Correctional Service. During questioning, Ka’oje confessed to the crime and revealed he had sold the stolen gold to several individuals: Sa’adu Ibrahim Darhami, Hamza Ahmad, Nasiru Sani, and Tasi’u Umar.

Further investigation uncovered that Ka’oje was assisted by two other individuals. Ibrahim Usman Oroji helped dispose of some of the stolen items and received ₦2.5 million of the proceeds. Mustapha Hassan is accused of helping conceal the remaining proceeds by facilitating the purchase of two plots of land in Birnin Kebbi.
So far, police have recovered two golden bangles, a motorcycle, and three high-end phones (an iPhone 16, a Samsung Galaxy Ultra, and a Samsung Flip).
Police Commissioner Lauds Team Effort
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the investigating team for their “promptness, professionalism, and intelligence-driven policing.” He urged the officers to continue their efforts to arrest the remaining suspects and recover more of the stolen property.
In a statement, CP Sani reaffirmed the command’s commitment to fighting violent crime and ensuring a safe and secure environment for the people of Kebbi State. The release was signed by CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Kebbi State Command.
