Troops Repel Bandits’ Attacks in Kaduna, Katsina, Recover Rustled Cattle

Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, working in collaboration with Police operatives and community security groups, have repelled separate armed bandits’ attacks in Kaduna and Katsina states, leading to the recovery of rustled cattle.

In Kaduna, the incident occurred on Wednesday night when heavily armed bandits invaded a Ruga settlement at Unguwan Gari Village, Kakangi Ward, in Giwa Local Government Area. The attackers shot two residents, identified as 60-year-old Iliya Habu and 50-year-old Tukur Habu, who later died from their injuries at General Hospital, Zabiwa. Their remains were released to family members for burial in line with Islamic rites.

Troops swiftly responded, engaging the assailants in a fierce gun duel. The criminals were forced to abandon the stolen cattle and flee into the bush. Security operatives confirmed that all the rustled cattle were successfully recovered, while efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing attackers.

Similarly, in Katsina State, troops on Thursday night foiled another bandit attack at Yar Makera Quarters in Matazu Local Government Area. The bandits, who struck at about 9:50 p.m., were confronted by troops, Police operatives, and vigilante groups in a gun battle that forced them to retreat.

During the encounter, one resident, Aliyu Hassan, 70, was fatally shot, while another, Mustapha Ado, 35, sustained serious injuries and is receiving treatment. Security forces have since intensified patrols in the area to restore calm and pursue the fleeing criminals.

The coordinated responses in both states underscore the ongoing efforts of Operation FANSAN YANMA and allied security agencies to curb banditry and protect rural communities across the Northwest.
