FRSC Secures Conviction for 245 Traffic Offenders in Abuja

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Federal Capital Territory Command, has intensified its clampdown on reckless motorists under Operation Restore Sanity IV, securing the conviction of 245 traffic offenders during recent Mobile Court sittings in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Sunday, FRSC Assistant Corps Marshal and Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said a total of 254 offenders were arraigned for 563 traffic-related offences. The special operation was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service and the Nigerian Army Brigade of Guards, focusing on the notorious Abuja–Nyanya corridor.

According to the statement, 245 offenders were convicted, while nine were discharged after court proceedings.

The offences included 129 seatbelt violations, 122 driver’s licence violations, 111 cases of overloading, and 63 route violations. Others ranged from dangerous driving and traffic light offences to wrongful overtaking, use of phones while driving, number plate infractions, and impersonation.

Seven habitual violators—Shaab Murtala, Abel Sunday, Sunday Salasi, Benjamin Augustine, Ekem Charles, Hussaini Kabir, and Samsudeen Abdullahi—were found guilty of multiple offences. Their punishments ranged from three hours to five days of community service.

In one notable case, Hussaini Kabir was convicted not only for traffic violations but also for impersonating the military. He was sentenced to five days of community service at Mambilla Barracks.

The sittings were presided over by His Worship Maryam Muazu Alhaji and His Worship Huzaifa Maccido, with the FRSC FCT Sector Legal Officer, CRC Cindy Talabi, serving as prosecuting counsel.

The FRSC reiterated its warning to motorists to obey traffic rules, stressing that the agency remains committed to safeguarding lives and restoring order on Nigerian roads. Ogungbemide added that similar enforcement exercises will be replicated across states to deter habitual violators.
