Troops of the Nigerian Army have recorded significant breakthroughs in ongoing operations across the North-Central and North-East regions, with the recovery of arms in Plateau State and the interception of a drug-laden vehicle in Taraba State, PRNigeria learnt.
In Plateau, soldiers of the 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) raided the hideout of a notorious gunrunner in Kurra Berom village, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area.
The operation, conducted in the early hours of Monday following credible intelligence, led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, two AK-47 magazines and 38 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.
Although the suspects escaped before the troops arrived, military sources confirmed that efforts were ongoing to track down and apprehend them, stressing the army’s commitment to mopping up illicit arms and ammunition in the area.

Similarly, Zagazola Makama reports that troops at Mutum Biyu in Taraba State, in collaboration with operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), intercepted a Sienna vehicle conveying suspected drug traffickers along the Garba Shede road.
Acting on NDLEA intelligence, troops attempted to stop the vehicle at a checkpoint, but the driver sped off. Soldiers disabled the vehicle by firing at its tyres, forcing it into the bush where its occupants fled.
A search of the abandoned vehicle uncovered large quantities of codeine and other illicit substances, as well as military kits, including two pairs of woodland camouflage uniforms, a pair of boots, an anklet and two green berets. The recovered drugs and vehicle were handed over to the NDLEA, while the military kits remain in custody of the troops.
Military authorities noted that investigations are ongoing in both cases to apprehend the fleeing suspects and dismantle criminal networks threatening peace and security in the region.
