Badaru Joins Global Leaders at Beijing Forum on Peace, Security

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has joined over 100 defence and military leaders from across the world at the 12th Beijing Xiangshan Forum in China.

At the forum, delegates were expected to discuss international order, peaceful development, and regional security cooperation.

A statement by Mati Ali, Personal Assistant Media & Publicity to the Minister confirmed this today in Abuja.

The annual forum, which opened on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, is one of Asia’s most influential security dialogues, bringing together representatives from countries including Russia, France, Brazil, Singapore, and Vietnam, alongside international and regional organisations.

With the theme “Upholding International Order and Promoting Peaceful Development,” the 2025 edition features four plenary and eight simultaneous sessions addressing critical issues such as global security governance, Asia-Pacific cooperation, and efforts to safeguard stability amid rising geopolitical tensions.

Nigeria’s participation, according to officials, underscores President Bola Tinubu’s push to strengthen the country’s role in global security diplomacy, expand strategic defence partnerships, and leverage multilateral platforms to address transnational threats such as terrorism, cybercrime, and maritime insecurity.

Minister Badaru’s presence at the forum is seen as an opportunity for Abuja to deepen defence cooperation with major powers and foster new collaborations in technology, peacekeeping, and counter-terrorism efforts, especially as the country battles insurgency and organised crime at home.

The Beijing Xiangshan Forum, launched in 2006, has evolved into a key multilateral platform for dialogue on security and defence issues, often compared to the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore.
