Firefighters Rescue Nine Victims from Burning 6-Storey Building in Lagos

Operatives of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service on Tuesday rescued nine persons from a fire outbreak at Afriland Tower, a six-storey building on Broad Street, Lagos Island.

Deputy Controller-General of the agency, Mr. Ogabi Olajide, who confirmed the incident in a statement, said five of the victims were successfully resuscitated, while efforts were ongoing to stabilise the remaining four.

“The fire, reported at exactly 1:38 p.m., originated from the inverter room located in the basement of the building. The smoke spread quickly across multiple floors, engulfing much of the structure,” Olajide explained.

According to him, fire crews from Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu stations were immediately deployed to the scene following a distress call. He added that several occupants escaped unhurt as firefighters battled to contain the blaze.

Rescue operations were still ongoing at the time of filing this report, with emergency teams working to ensure no lives were lost.
