Troops Raid Illegal Arms Factory in Plateau, Arrest Suspect, Recover Weapons
Troops of 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace (JTF OPEP) have uncovered and dismantled an illegal arms manufacturing factory in Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The raid, conducted on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, followed credible intelligence on illicit weapon production in the area. During the operation, troops arrested a suspected weapon fabricator, while other accomplices fled before the soldiers arrived.

A search of the factory led to the recovery of 12 assorted fabricated weapons, a pistol, 19 rounds of PKT ammunition, 12 cartridges, 10 rounds of 7.62mm (Special), 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, four rounds of 7.62mm (NATO), one round of QJC ammunition, and a smoke grenade. Troops also found two fragmental jackets, a Motorola hand-held radio, a jack knife, and a bucket containing assorted medicines.
The suspect and recovered items are currently in custody for further investigation, while efforts are underway to track and apprehend fleeing members of the syndicate.
The military urged residents of Plateau State and surrounding communities to continue to provide credible intelligence to security agencies, stressing that the operation was part of ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements freedom of action and eradicate illicit arms within the Joint Operations Area.
