Troops Repel Bandits’ Attacks in Katsina, Kebbi, Recover Rustled Cattle
Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, in joint operations with the police and vigilante groups, have repelled separate banditry attacks in Katsina and Kebbi States, neutralising one assailant, recovering rustled livestock, and reinforcing security patrols in the affected areas, PRNigeria learnt.
In Katsina State, the attack occurred around 3:25 a.m. on Thursday when suspected bandits invaded Awari Yashe and Sararawa villages in Kusada Local Government Area. Security forces, working alongside Community Watch patrol teams, responded swiftly and engaged the attackers in a gun duel.

According to Zagazola Makama, during the exchange, a resident, identified as Sama’ila Dahiru, 40, sustained gunshot injuries, while an unspecified number of livestock were rustled. In the course of their escape along the Gidan Mutun Daya–Kofa highway, the bandits caused a road accident that claimed the life of an unidentified victim. The injured and deceased were evacuated to the General Hospital in Kankia, where doctors confirmed the fatality.
Security sources said efforts have been intensified to track down the fleeing suspects and recover the stolen animals, while patrols across the axis have been reinforced to forestall further attacks.
In Kebbi State, troops foiled another raid on Indarai forest in Zugu District on Wednesday evening. Armed bandits in large numbers had rustled cows belonging to the Zugu community, but were intercepted by the military, vigilantes, and other security forces.
The joint team engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, neutralising one bandit and recovering a large herd of cattle. However, a vigilante member, Nura Tela, sustained gunshot wounds during the clash and died on the way to hospital.
The bandits were forced to retreat into neighbouring Zamfara State with some of their injured members. The recovered cows have since been handed over to the appropriate authorities for safe keeping.
Security operatives assured that intensified patrols are ongoing in both Katsina and Kebbi to restore confidence among residents and prevent further incursions.
