Following distress calls, the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai was activated to support troops on the ground. An Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform, Grey Raptor, tracked the movement of the insurgents as they retreated northwards from Banki.
Guided by ISR feeds, two A-29 Super Tucano aircraft executed three successive air interdiction missions. The strikes successfully engaged insurgents on the move and others regrouping at two assembly points with logistics.
The precision strikes neutralised more than 25 terrorists at the assembly areas and others fleeing the battlefield, bringing the total figure to 32.
The remains of the two fallen soldiers were evacuated to the Headquarters of Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, while the body of the slain minor was released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.
Military authorities confirmed that additional reinforcements have been deployed to stabilise Banki and its surrounding areas.
