CCTV: Lagos Police Nab Notorious Gold Robber Behind Allen Avenue Attack

The Lagos State Police Command has announced a major breakthrough in its crime-fighting efforts with the arrest of a notorious armed robbery kingpin, John Samuel, who was captured in his hideout in Epe. Samuel, a 28-year-old from Akwa Ibom State, is a known ex-convict with a history of violent crime.

He was apprehended on September 19, following a successful operation by police detectives.

A Vicious Criminal’s Return to Crime

According to police, Samuel, who was released from prison on August 18 after serving a six-year sentence for armed robbery, wasted no time returning to his criminal activities. Just one month after his release, on August 18, he allegedly shot and robbed a businessman, Gbenga Obama, in broad daylight on Gbajobi Street, Allen Avenue, Ikeja.

CCTV footage from the incident shows Samuel using an English pistol to shoot his victim before snatching an expensive gold necklace and other valuables. The victim, who sustained serious gunshot wounds, has since been treated and discharged from the hospital.

Samuel confessed to selling the stolen jewelry for ₦4 million, significantly below its market value. The police are now working to track down and arrest the other members of his gang.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohudare Jimoh, commended the gallantry and commitment of the operatives who made the arrest. He reassured Lagosians that the command is dedicated to their safety and protection.

The police have warned all criminals that there is “no hiding place” for them in Lagos and that they will be prosecuted upon the completion of the investigation.

The press release was signed by DSP Babaseyi B. Oluseyi, the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Command.
