68 inmates pass 2025 NECO in Kano correctional facility
Sixty-eight inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Kano State Command, have successfully passed the 2025 National Examination Council (NECO) exams, the State Command confirmed on Monday.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano Command, CSC Musbahu Lawan, said the achievement was made possible through the Centre for Inmates’ Continuity Education, fully sponsored by the Kano State Government.
“This success reflects the implementation of the Correctional Service Act, 2019, which emphasizes the rehabilitation and reformation of inmates through education and vocational training,” Lawan said.

He added that the initiative aligns with the directive of the Controller General of Corrections, CGC Sylvester Indidi-Nwakuche, which urges custodial centres nationwide to enroll inmates in academic and vocational programmes. “The aim is to equip them with skills and knowledge that will help them reintegrate into society as responsible and productive citizens,” he noted.
Lawan also highlighted that the programme supports the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which seeks to positively transform the lives of Nigerians, including those in custodial facilities.
The inmates expressed joy over their accomplishment, describing it as a turning point in their lives. The Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Mr. Ado Inuwa, congratulated the beneficiaries and wished them continued success in their reformation journey.
Hajiya Azumi Namadi-Bebeje, Chairperson of the Prerogative of Mercy, also commended the inmates for their achievement. She praised Governor Abba Yusuf for his compassion and commitment to supporting inmate welfare, emphasizing the state government’s ongoing efforts to provide educational opportunities that empower inmates to become positive contributors to society.
