Military Airstrikes Eliminate Scores of ISWAP Fighters in Lake Chad
The Nigerian military has confirmed the elimination of scores of Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters following precision airstrikes on an island in Lake Chad on Saturday. The operation also destroyed critical insurgent logistics and infrastructure.
According to military sources, the strikes followed a series of air reconnaissance and interdiction missions across the axis between Gamboru and Lake Chad Island, conducted in coordination with the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF).

The operation, coordinated under the Theatre Command of Operation Hadin Kai, targeted the movement of ISWAP fighters and their facilities. Intelligence revealed at least 12 boats, believed to be used for logistics, as well as several concealed shelters suspected to house weapons, ammunition, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
“The aircraft carried out the first precision strike on a suspected IED-making facility. Subsequent assessment showed insurgents fleeing in disarray,” one of the sources disclosed.
Another strike was directed at a suspected command post or high-value site, killing several fighters. “Over 20 insurgents were seen attempting to evacuate casualties and transport wounded fighters, an indication of the heavy losses inflicted and significant disruption to their operational capability,” the source added.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on the insurgents until normalcy is fully restored in the North East region.
