NCoS Intercepts Cannabis, Other Illicit Drugs at Kuje Custodial Centre, Nabs Suspect
Officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have foiled an attempt to smuggle substances suspected to be psychoactive drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Public Relations Officer of the FCT Command, Samson Duza, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja.
According to him, at about 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, a man identified as Njimogu Ikedi attempted to visit an inmate while concealing items suspected to be cannabis sativa and other illicit substances in his clothing.
“The contraband was uncovered during a routine search conducted by personnel on duty,” Duza said.

He noted that the Controller of Corrections, FCT Command, Christopher Jen, immediately ordered the arrest of the suspect and directed that he be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
Jen, while condemning the act, warned individuals with criminal intentions to desist, stressing that vigilant personnel of the Service would continue to expose and frustrate such attempts.
He further urged the public to support the NCoS in its mission to reform and rehabilitate offenders as part of efforts to strengthen public safety.
This incident comes barely a year after a woman was apprehended in July 2024 for attempting to smuggle suspected psychoactive substances into the same Kuje facility.
