Police Partner, SPSP Train Senior Officers on Conflict Management

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP), on Monday, held an executive capacity-building workshop aimed at enhancing conflict management and peacebuilding skills among senior police officers.

The one-day workshop, themed “Managing Fast-Paced Security Challenges in a Protracted Conflict Environment”, took place at the Police Resource Centre in Jabi, Abuja. It attracted the Force Management Team, Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police, and other senior officers. Also in attendance were leading figures of the SPSP, including its Founder, Prof. Isaac Olawale Albert; President, Mr. Nathaniel Awuapiala; and Board Chairman, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro.

With sessions focused on conflict analysis, conflict-sensitive decision-making, and early warning/response mechanisms, the programme was designed to equip top police officers with practical tools for addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, in his address, commended the SPSP for partnering with the Force, stressing the importance of a transformed mindset in policing.

“I urge all participants to translate the insights gained here into practical strategies that will not only recalibrate our approaches but also reflect in daily policing operations across the country,” Egbetokun said.

The IGP added that the workshop is part of a series of initiatives under his leadership to strengthen professionalism, service delivery, and strategic policing nationwide.

The collaboration with SPSP, according to him, underscores the Police Force’s commitment to adopting knowledge-driven strategies in tackling contemporary security threats.
